Joint Industry Talk

AI for Industry: Our Secret Weapons

Abstract:

Artificial Intelligence technology is everywhere around us: in consumer applications like phones, cars, autonomous vacuum cleaners, and lawn mowers.

It is also more and more present in industry increasing the intelligence of products and guarding the quality of production.

Yet not all AI is alike. In fact, depending on the application, it requires different approaches.

In this talk, I would like to discuss the differences in demands and approaches between consumer and industrial AI.

Andrei Bartic is currently leading the Decision and Control cluster in Flanders Make. Andrei has over 20 years of experience in industry-driven research (imec, FMTC, Flanders Make). He has a physics degree from the Al. I. Cuza University, Iasi, Romania and a PhD degree in physics from KU, Leuven.

He has been involved in the definition and follow-up of over 50 industrial research projects. The cluster manages a broad portfolio of technologies applied to various application domains. It encompasses AI and optimization techniques applied to optimal and learning control, signal processing and AI applied to condition monitoring, digital twins for dynamic mechatronic systems, localization and navigation solutions for autonomous vehicles, and quality monitoring solutions through AI and visual inspection.
